The original Upper Cumberland Wheelmen club was formed in November of 1989 by a small group of men from Cookeville, Tennessee, with the purpose of cycling competitively.
UCW was awarded the 1995 TBRA Club of the Year due to sponsor club of the Highland Rim Cycling Classic and promotion of the Avery Trace Cycling Classic. A "Bike For Kids" program also contributed significantly to our selection for this award.

The club underwent revitalization in 2003, when an amended group of cycling enthusiasts banded together. Their goal was to compete in a number of TBRA sanctioned races, to see what they could accomplish.

The Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association (TBRA) race team has garnered some impressive results since 2003, most notably in 2006 with Curt Cadwell winning the TBRA Points Competetion in the Masters 50 division. The team continues to gain momentum, by adding members , adopting coaches, stepping up their training schedule , and advancing members within the categories.

The UCW club’s purposes have been clearly defined to:
1) develop a diverse cycling team with competitors in every category and division
2) to increase cycling awareness and promote cycling, both competitively and recreationally, in the Upper Cumberland area
3) to give charitably to related causes whenever possible
